How should you address the other party during interpreting?

During interpreting, speak to the other party directly in the first person, exactly as though they understood your language. Both parties should act as if the interpreter were not there — or simply treat the interpreter as translation software. Once you think of the interpreter that way, addressing the other party naturally in the first person becomes effortless.
